The Golden Bee

This is Bud. Bud plays the piano at a local establishment called The Golden Bee. It is, as you may have already guessed, a piano bar. Bud enjoys playing songs like "Sweet Caroline" and "Margaritaville," among others. And I enjoy singing them at the top of my lungs. See photo below for evidence.

The sincere, heartfelt emotion registering on my face indicates that we were about three verses into "The Piano Man" at this point.

Last night my friend Jaci invited us to the Bee because her boyfriend Josh is in town for a little while and he wanted to share this experience with people who could potentially embarrass him by singing entirely too loudly.

Aren't they such a cute couple?

There are a couple of traditions that the Bee is famous for. Firstly, they serve "yards" of beer. It's like four pints of beer in a really, really tall tubey glass thing that needs a stand because without it, the yard would topple over. Or tump over as I am wont to say. It's a lot of fun to watch someone finish their yard because everyone cheers and makes merry. There's merrymaking, to be sure.

The other thing that is tradition is that the waitresses throw these bee stickers on you. Josh is sporting one here. Please note my stellar use of "Paint" to highlight the bee.

Turns out, as I was lamely singing "Yellow Submarine" in a voice some would liken to the sound a banshee might make, my little sister Heather was listening to Sir Paul sing it live at the new Cowboys Stadium. I bet you now wish she was writing this blog.

Oh, well. The Bee is always a good time. It's a landmark in Colorado Springs and if you come to visit me, I promise to take you there. And I promise to try to lose my voice before we go to spare you some humiliation.
